Williams Lake Farmers Market sees success with Seedy Saturday

An indoor event helped kick off gardening season in Williams Lake

It was a solid success for the Williams Lake Farmers Market Seedy Saturday event on March 15.

With over 40 vendors and presenters offering everything from seeds to art to information and food for humans and animals, the Thompson Rivers University gym in Williams Lake was bustling with activity.

There was a concession by volunteers of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, providing food while raising money for their food programs for those in need.

Talks were held throughout the day, with a room dedicated to presentations on low-cost creative gardening ideas, growing mushrooms, backyard poultry and a talk from some Prince George Master Gardeners.

Wild & Immersive Williams Lake hosted a kids activity table to help entertain the young attendees and there were plenty of opportunities to shop local and support regional small businesses.

There were participants from Williams Lake, Horsefly, Quesnel, 100 Mile House, Prince George and Lytton.

The Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society provided recycling services at the event and everyone who came had the chance to enter their name in the draw for one of the many door prizes.

The event was made possible with support from the Central Cariboo Community Food Hub, Cariboo Direct Farm Market Association and the Williams Lake Food Policy Council.

Organizers said the success means they will be planning to do a similar event again in 2026.
