Vernon seniors facility says thanks with weekend barbecue

Abbeyfield Seniors Home welcomed 40 guests to say thanks for all of the community support it receives

A traditional way of saying thank you was carried on by a Vernon seniors facility.

Abbeyfield Seniors Home hosted its annual Thank You Barbecue on the weekend of June 21, welcoming more than 40 attendees including volunteers, families, friends, members of the board of directors, and neighbours from the area.

"The event was a heartfelt celebration of the strong connections and ongoing support that help make Abbeyfield a welcoming and caring home for its residents," said board president Theo Seal.

The Real Canadian Wholesale Club donated hot dogs, buns, drinks, and snacks that kept those at the barbecue well-fed throughout the afternoon.

Abbeyfield staff – especially Betty – was thanked for baking a delicious assortment of sweet treats.

“We’re filled with joy to see so many folks come out and socialize at our annual barbecue," said Seal. "It means a lot to us; it takes a village to make our home continue to thrive. We rely on community and it’s awesome to see so many people support our society.”

The barbecue featured a successful bucket draw that raised $335 with all proceeds going towards the Abbeyfield roof replacement fund. Abbeyfield is still accepting donations to support this vital project.

A number of local businesses donated door prizes that were drawn for, with an extra special thank you going out to Laurie, who donated a stunning handcrafted birdhouse for the draw.

"Abbeyfield Seniors Home is deeply grateful for the generosity and support of its volunteers, donors, staff, and neighbours," said Seal. "Together, we help create a safe, welcoming, and comfortable space for the seniors who call Abbeyfield home."
