The South Vancouver Island Potters Guild is marking 25 years of creativity and community with its annual show and sale on Saturday, June 7.

The guild, formed in 1999 by 14 ceramic artists, was the first potters’ guild on Vancouver Island.

This year’s event features works of 40 local potters, including artists who focus on wheel-throwing, hand-building and sculpture.

Kris Jeffrey, who chairs the organizing committee, is always impressed by the variety and imagination on display.

“I love to see the variety of forms and colours displayed in our show and sale,” said Jeffrey. “It’s amazing what potters can create from a lump of clay.”

Linda Vigliotti, one of the original founding members, has participated in every sale since the guild's creation.

“The guild is a great place for sharing techniques and meeting others,” she said. “I like that we foster creativity between old hands who work with clay as a profession and those who are just starting out.”

This year's event will be held at Saanich’s Greek Community Hall (4648 Elk Lake Dr.).

Admission is free. The show and sale run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with ceramics ranging from mugs to sculpture to dinnerware available for purchase.
