Williams Lake Seniors Activity Centre is a popular place on any given day.

The Williams Lake and District Seniors Activity Centre (WLSAC) is proud to offer programs designed to support the health, well-being, and independence of local seniors. You may know about the centre’s lunch program and other activities but did you know that we are also the host agency for four other senior-serving programs in Williams Lake? Read on for more information on these programs.

Better at Home Program: Helping Seniors Stay Independent

Our cornerstone program is the Better at Home program. Now with 200-plus clients throughout Williams Lake and surrounding areas, Better at Home continues to provide essential services that help seniors live safely and independently in their own homes. This program is designed to meet the diverse needs of seniors, offering a wide range of services such as light housekeeping, grocery shopping, transportation, snow shovelling and lawn care. Our Program Co-ordinators are available at 778-412-2430.

Seniors Support Program: Supportive Guidance

Alongside Better at Home, we also offer our Seniors Support Program, powered by some very knowledgeable volunteers. This program offers a variety of help -- things like navigating online resources, getting your accessible parking pass, and help with government forms, etc. This program also partners with our Community Connector to connect seniors with a range of local and online resources and services, including mental health support, wellness programs, and connections to community services that can help address their unique needs. The Program can be reached at 778-412-1855.

BC Community Response Network: Empowering Communities through Collaboration and Relationship-building to Stop Adult Abuse and Neglect

The BC CRN Association of Community Response Networks (BCCRN) is a provincial umbrella organization that supports local community response networks who in turn work to create a strong community response for adults who may be experiencing or be impacted by abuse, neglect and self-neglect.

BC CRN has four available workshops that can be presented upon request:

1. It's Not Right - adult abuse and neglect

2. See Something Say Something - adult abuse and neglect

3. Ageism - ageism what it is and how to recognize it

4. Extreme Clutter - what is and is not hoarding – who can help

Eva Navrot is a facilitator for BC CRN and can be reached at 250-303-1249 to further discuss these workshops on elder abuse and ageism or visit the BCCRN website for many resources at www.bccrns.ca.

Introducing Social Prescribing with the Community Connector

We are pleased to announce the launch of our new Community Connector program, a pioneering effort in social prescribing at the WLSAC. Social prescribing recognizes the importance of social, emotional, and environmental factors in a person’s health. Through the Community Connector, seniors will be connected with non-medical services that address social isolation, mental health, and community engagement.

The Community Connector will work closely with seniors to identify their interests and needs, referring them to relevant community activities, support groups, or social programs that can improve their quality of life. Whether it’s joining a fitness class, participating in a social club, or engaging in volunteer opportunities, the Community Connector will help seniors find meaningful ways to stay active, connected, and supported. The Community Connectors can be reached at 778-412-1855.

The Williams Lake and District Seniors Activity Centre is committed to supporting our senior community. Whether you need help with daily tasks, are looking for more social connection, or need support navigating services, we’re here to help. We also welcome community members to get involved. Volunteers play a vital role in making these programs a success, and we encourage anyone interested in giving back to consider volunteering with us. At the Williams Lake and District Seniors Activity Centre, we believe that age is just a number. With the right support, seniors can continue to live fulfilling and active lives. Memberships for 2025 are now available on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for $25. Join us as we work together to create a stronger, healthier community for our seniors!
