A Williams Lake senior shares an experience of golf as a senior after six lakecity senior golfers compete in the Senior Games in Salmon Arm.

Golf clubs are loaded, and the anticipation and excitement are building. What will the courses be like? Will there be a ton of bunkers or water? Will I hit the ball straight?

Just because we are in our golden years it does not mean these emotions and thoughts do not cross our minds. The years are ticking on by but in our minds and hearts we are still filled with hopes of playing our best game ever, and even bringing home a medal.

We want to do our best for ourselves, our community, our sponsors, and our zone. Most important is to have fun and make new friends.

We would like to say a heart felt thank you to (John) Tim Hortons, (Troy Weil) Tasco, (Tim Menning) Hytest Timber, (Arnie Bremner), Clusko Logging and the fine folks at Tolko for lending a helping hand with travel expenses. We are so grateful.

If it had not been for the fact that we all play golf with the 50+ Golf group on Wednesdays throughout the warmer months of the year we would not have even thought of taking on such a challenge.

Every Wednesday the Senior golfers in Williams Lake play individual and team games. Our club is made up of players that are club members and those that play just this one day of the week.

We play nine holes for a minimal cost and (and a lesser cost to rent golf carts), thanks to the generosity of our club. Each player has the opportunity to take home some winnings and join us social players that go upstairs for a coffee and social hour after, should they choose.

This club (50+) is perfect for those that used to play and maybe still do play weekly, and those that no longer wish to play that much golf and those that have other obligations and only have time or energy to play just the nine.

We welcome new members and in no time, you too will feel like you have been a valuable member of this club since forever. Set aside some time to join us come Spring!
