Boitanio Mall is expected to be a real zoo on the Easter weekend.
For the 14th year in a row the Rose Lake Miocene Petting Zoo and Cake Walk event will be taking over the lower level of the mall Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Club leader and organizer Abby Shoults said there will be a variety of animals on hand at the petting zoo courtesy of 4-H Club members such as rabbits, goats, dogs, chickens, a pot bellied pig, a bearded dragon, sheep with lambs, Murphy the turkey and even a milk cow named Gertie who will make her way into the mall by the back door.
“Who knows, there could be more. These are the animals we know for sure will be there,” said Shoults.
As well as the petting zoo, there will also be the popular cake walk where participants pay a loonie in hopes of winning a homemade cake.
Shoults said the event is the main fundraiser of the year for the club, with the petting zoo being by donation and the cake walk a loonie per try.
A longtime supporter of 4-H in the past, and her children in the club now, Shoultz said she loves what 4-H brings to the life of children.
“It develops children into responsible, caring adults. I think it’s really cool to see them transform,” she said, noting she also believes the program teaches children a love for working.
“They develop a real work ethic with 4-H, and that’s something hat has to be taught.”
Everyone is welcome to the event.
