Happy New Year to everyone! 2010 was a most memorable year for me. I can hardly wait to see what 2011 will bring.
As little girls we dream of being a princess but never think that it will actually happen.
When I used to picture myself in the beautiful sparkling outfits and the glittering crown, I never imagined that I would be wearing Wrangler jeans, Roper and Stetson button-up shirts, boots and a Smithbilt cowboy hat under my crown.
My journey of becoming a Princess began last November at the Canadian Finals Rodeo where I captured the title of Miss Rodeo Canada Princess 2011.
Since then I have been travelling along side my partner Kezia Morrison, Miss Rodeo Canada 2011, throughout Canada and the U.S. promoting the sport of rodeo and the Miss Rodeo Canada organization.
Kezia and I have attended the Grey Cup festivities in Edmonton, the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo and Miss Rodeo America Pageant in Las Vegas and hometown events.
My first event took place in Williams Lake at the annual Cowboy Christmas hosted at the Gibraltar Room by the Museum of the Cariboo Chilcotin. It was really nice to come home and see all of those familiar faces.
After a week or so off to do some well-needed laundry and to catch up on my sleep, I was back on the trail to Edmonton for the Grey Cup.
During the Grey Cup festivities we attended the Spirit of Edmonton Breakfast, Hot to Huddle and the Grey Cup Parade. It was really great to see the festive and up-beat energy of the entire city of Edmonton.
Before Kezia and I knew it we were whisked off to Las Vegas, Nevada. It definitely wasn’t hard to adjust to the warm weather Vegas had to offer. We started our trip off with the Miss Rodeo America Pageant.
It was really interesting to see the similarities and the differences between our pageants.
It was nice to get to meet some of the ladies we will see along the rodeo trail.
I look forward to representing the sport of rodeo across North America with Kezia and the newly crowned Miss Rodeo America, McKenzie Haley.
When the pageant was over we attended autograph signings at our wonderful sponsors Roper and Stetson and Wrangler booths.
When nighttime fell “the city that never sleeps” would come alive with amazing lights and sounds. Each evening Kezia and I would head off to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (WNFR). From the pre-rodeo Gold Card room dinners, rodeo events, buckle presentations each evening to the exceptional rodeo, meeting many rodeo athletes and people I will never forget, this was an amazing experience.
Upon returning home for Christmas I was invited to attend a council meeting on Dec. 21 where I received a certificate of merit for bringing national recognition to Williams Lake. I was very touched by receiving this award and will always be grateful to all the people who supported me to get there.
The year 2011 is here and it’s time to hit that dusty rodeo trail. What better way to do that than heading to Denver, Colorado for the Denver Stock and Market Show. I look forward to keeping you all updated as I continue my travels as the 2011 Miss Rodeo Canada Princess.
Best wishes and happy trails!
As with most royalty we must be invited to officially attend functions.
