When people come to Letwilc Ren Semec Esk'etemc Recovery House, Lucy Dick said they become a part of her extended family.
Dick is a life skills coach at the centre, which provides a place for people to rebuild their lives and life skills after undergoing detox treatment for substance use.
The facility is located in Esk'et (Alkali Lake) and has five rooms for those who need a place to get back on their feet. People usually stay for six months and she said they get training and supports and always leave with more belongings than they came in with.
Dick said she finds her work helping people relearn life skills like money management and basic cooking very rewarding. She even sometimes stays in touch with people who have come through the program.
The facility currently has space for anyone looking to take the next step in their recovery, said Dick, who was in Boitanio Park on June 26 to share information on the centre as part of an Interior Health Mental Health and Substance Use team free breakfast event.
The facility has also accepted people recovering from other types of trauma as well.
