Rambling Rodeo, a poem about the 2025 Williams Lake Stampede

Overlooking the Williams Lake Stampede on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

Adrenaline pumping,

Belt buckles snug tight,

There's a nice, big crowd,

in the stands tonight!

Honoured guests arrive rolling,

After days on the trail,

Wheels from several nations,

Arrive each year without fail.

Hats held close to heart,

With respect and heads tall,

Our national anthem,

Echoes loud upon walls.

Testosterone racing,

Cinches pulled tight,

What wild adventures,

Will play out tonight?

Breakaway roping,

Running ever so fast,

Bronc riding with rig straps,

We'll see if they last.

Pick ups are key,

As flank straps are released,

Let's hope that everyone,

can handle their beast.

Timed wrestling proceeds,

No dog falls when flipped,

Riding fast on their steeds,

Focused in and tight lipped.

Three legs are lassoed,

Rope twists and twirls,

There's a place for the men,

And a place for the girls.

Barrels sway in the wind,

As pockets are cut thin,

The minutest of seconds,

Will take home the win.

Ground rumbles and shudders,

Wild women on the track,

Header, heeler and hooeys,

Teamwork is where it's at.

Music blares to the crowd,

Barrelman and clowns are on point,

Adrenaline courses through veins,

Bulls ready to mount.

No slaps or flags,

Penalties or pain,

Eight seconds we ask,

Of the truly insane.

And last but not least,

Wild horse race begins,

Racing down steep wet hills,

Thunder roars to the win.

Judges and cowpokes,

Bull fighters and friends,

Volunteers and musicians,

Bunnies who dance and bend.

Mini doughnuts and music,

Refreshments and fun,

A really great time,

Was had by everyone.
