The action got heated on the rink at a Langford street hockey event, when a young trash talker taunted a police officer – but no arrests were made.
The rivalry was all in good spirits as West Shore RCMP took on an army of youngsters for a game of hockey for Family Day in Veteran's Memorial Park.
Trying to tend goal was Cpl. Cole Brewer of the West Shore Community and Indigenous Policing Unit, who as well as fielding balls, faced a wave of playful jibes from a cheeky Langford youngster.
Also in attendance were Langford Fire and Rescue, bringing with them a fire engine for people to explore. Taking them up on the offer was four-year-old Brighson Harris, who came dressed for the occasion as a fire chief.
Serving up hot dogs for the dozens of hungry people in attendance were volunteers from the Women's Auxiliary to the Langford Volunteer Firefighters Association, who later this year will celebrate their 75th anniversary.
The street hockey game was one of many events organized by the City of Langford in partnership with local organizations and businesses across the city. Residents could also enjoy free board game sessions at the Outpost Board Game Cafe, as well as a whole host of Family Day activities at Westshore Town Centre.
