PHOTOS: Vernon mental health block party draws crowds

Central location for annual block party brings out people to listen to good music, enjoy local food, and support the local branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association

Good food. Good tunes. Good crowd.

Canadian Mental Health Association Vernon and District held its annual Block Party during Mental Health Week Thursday, May 8. The event is a fundraiser for local mental health initiatives.

This year's event was held at the centrally located courtyard outside the Museum and Archives of Vernon, with tents posted to help visitors beat the heat on a hot afternoon.

Vernon band The Shades provided the music and barbecue hamburgers were available by donation.

The event was one of two involving the Vernon branch Thursday.

The other was inside the cool, air-conditioned confines of the venerable Towne Theatre with a showing of the cult classic Bring It On. The movie was on the marquee for Watkin Motors Ford's Thankful Thursday presentation, with proceeds to CMHA Vernon.
