Drying Wednesday nights downpour, the skwék̓w7es (sun) shone on the Splatsin te Secwépemc Day Thursday.
The event, held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Quilakwa Ball Park on June 19, was a morning of celebration, community and culture.
The day began with a morning ceremony and opening remarks from Kukpi7 (Chief) Michael Christian and Tkwamipla7 (council), followed by a pancake breakfast from the Enderby Lions Club. The Field of Fun then opened, with a dunk tank — whose targets welcomed the dunkings in the heat — a tug of war, face painting, dancing, bounce houses Secwépemcstin Bingo, Tule. mat weaving and canoe rides, dependent on the water level.
Indian tacos from Icey Joes capped the event, which saw everyone leave with a smile.
