PHOTOS: Christmas market for misfits in Williams Lake

A market made space for Grinches and goths alike on Sunday, Dec. 15 in Williams Lake

The first ever Misfits & Mistletoe Christmas Market in Williams Lake was at full-capacity, and vendors have already signed up for next year in what could become an annual Christmas event in the city.

About 48 vendors were set up at the Ramada Convention Centre on Sunday, Dec. 15, ready to sell their wood carvings, stickers, sweets and tarot readings at the market which catered to one and all.

"It was a blast and so much fun," said organizer Wanda Sheppard the following day. "The vendors were amazing and came together to join our little quickly put together market."

Sheppard and Sunny Dyck, who both organize the successful Bewitching Market which runs every October, quickly put together the Misfits & Mistletoe market when they heard the annual Hobby Con market in Williams Lake was being cancelled.

Dyck told the Tribune she and Sheppard wanted to provide an opportunity for their friends and other vendors to sell their products this Christmas season, a time which is very important for many businesses.

As suggested by the name, the market was open to vendors of all kinds, whether their products matched the typical Christmas theme or fell in an entirely different category.

In an interview leading up to the market, Sheppard emphasized this point.

“If you want to do goth you can do goth, if you want to do Christmas you can do Christmas,” she said.

Sheppard said she was quite busy on the day of the market, but she guessed there were at least 300 people who came to see what it was all about.

"The Grinch of course made it even better," she added.
