Pomp and ceremony, recognitions of achievement, a promotion and a change of command were all part of the 83rd Annual Ceremonial Review of the 67 cadets of Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron 223 Red Lion on Thursday, June 5.
More than 200 family members and friends attended the parade in the G-7 building at the Vernon Military Camp.
The Reviewing Officer for the parade was Dale Martell, chair of the Aircraft Maintenance Programs at Okanagan College
After the inspection of the cadets and the March Past, cadets were presented with a number of awards for their development over the past winter.
Lt. Ben Noorduyn, the Squadron training office, was promoted to Captain, and following his promotion assumed the command of the squadron from Capt. Jason Paas. After four years with the squadron, Paas is transferring to take command of Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps 1705 British Columbia Dragoons.
Overseeing the Change of Command was Commander Paula McHale, Regional Cadet Support Unit Commanding Officer.
After the formalities of the parade, which included a number of music selections from the squadron band, guests were treated to a variety of refreshments while they inspected some displays that highlighted the past winter's training.
