Walking along the shore at Island View Beach, James Younger and his dog Lou stopped to soak in another appearance from the northern lights.
Since May, the aurora borealis has been making frequent appearances across the skies of Vancouver Island. The phenomenon occurred again on Monday, Sept. 16., through to the early hours of Sept. 17.
Younger and his faithful four-legged friend were on the Central Saanich beach to witness the moment. But the spectacle was nothing new for Younger, who has been photographing the aurora for 15 years.
"I've been doing it since before it was cool," jokes Younger, who adds Monday's night event was as big as the light show witnessed in May.
As for Lou, the canine wasn't too overly impressed by the spectacle, choosing instead to stick close to his owner.
"He did take a look ... soaked it all in," said Younger.
To help others have their own encounters with the aurora, Younger has created a Facebook page, B.C. Aurora Chasers: www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100069929676814. Members of the online space are also encouraged to share their photos with the group.
