The annual Medieval Market which raises funds for high school students in Williams Lake was a grand success.
The market, which is entirely organized by volunteer teachers and community members, attracted about 3,500 guests over the weekend of Nov. 16 and 17. Over 100 students from Lake City Secondary School worked at the market, gaining experience while collecting funds for student programs and field trips.
Most vendors adorned themselves in medieval wear, some dressed in aprons and corsets, others wearing elf ears and witches' hats. Many guests dressed in theme as well, with some appearing as assassins or nobles, while others donned their most medieval-looking modern accessories, including knitted hats and cardigans and long skirts and capes.
There were about 100 vendors, the majority local to the Cariboo but with some from as far as the Lower Mainland. A variety of goods were sold from honey to olives to sheep skins and crafts.
The market also included an excellent line up of musicians, with a group of fiddlers performing in the auditorium on Saturday and many a solo singer entertaining bustling crowds in the gymnasium. Market-goers gathered around in support of artists both new and veterans to the scene, as they enjoyed warm coffee and sweet treats served by the students of LCSS.
