Three Sooke women with their hearts and creativity on full display are the driving force behind a fundraiser for Meals on Wheels in Sooke.
Barb Vix, the owner of Barb's Barber Shop, A Sea of Bloom owner Karen Stones, and Frederique Philip, the former owner of the Sooke Harbour House, poured a lot of love and effort into crafting handmade Christmas tree ornaments they sold to provide more than $2,000 for Meals on Wheels.
"We started selling them in early December," Vix said. "The ornaments are made from clay and hand-painted with different designs. We tried to come up with a variety so they would appeal to everyone."
She said some people chose to just donate money without taking an ornament because they appreciated that it was to support a local community initiative that does so much in the community,
"I was surprised by the large amount some people donated," Vix said. "The social aspect of Meals on Wheels is just as important as the meal for some clients."
Ornaments are for sale at Barb's Barber Shop at 6706 Sooke Rd., while supplies last.
Meals on Wheels provides meals for people in the community with limited or no access to nutritious meals.
Markus Lanz, president of Sooke Meals on Wheels, said they were "super grateful" for the support from the local business community.
"We try to encourage our staff and volunteers to support local businesses in return," he added.
