The Williams Lake Stampede is a challenge photographer Liz Twan of Alkali Lake tackles head on each year, always capturing phenomenal images from each day of the rodeo.
Twan’s work has been featured on multiple Williams Lake Stampede posters throughout the years, and in our very own Efteen pages.
Twan’s passion is also her life’s purpose, having managed the Alkali Lake Ranch for many decades with her husband, well-known cowboy Bronc Twan.
Twan has an eye and a heart for capturing local competitors having been around rodeos for many years with her husband and sons all competing. The Twans still live close to the Alkali Lake Ranch since they’ve retired and are enjoying spending time with their grandchildren.

Carmen Pozzobon leads the way after posting a fast 16.427 second-run in performance two on Friday night. (Liz Twan photo)The Wild Cowgirl Race on Friday afternoon at the Williams Lake Stampede lived up to its hype. In this photo, the race-winner, Lyndy Frieson of Williams Lake is barely in her saddle as she enters the rodeo arena four to five horse-lengths ahead of the 2nd place rider, Michelle van Baalen of Chilliwack. It required sheer strength and agility on the part of Frieson to retain her seat (and control) until she crossed the finish line.
