Local crafter loves the tedious but rewarding art of wire wrapping

Maggie Ward making wire wrapped jewellery by hand for two years and is now bringing her work to the farmers' market

It may be tedious work, but Maggie Ward loves it.

For two years now, Ward has been crafting jewellery by hand, carefully wrapping stones into complex webs of wires to form rings, necklaces, bracelets and more.

Her work is powered by her love of creating, taking her time to twist the wires until they're just right, forming pieces which are so symmetrical that it's hard to believe it's all done with just pliers and a determined hand. She recently received a custom order which required her to learn a bit of silver smithing which she plans to continue practicing and incorporate into her work.

Ward's creations have become such a hobby that she began running out of space at home, so in May of last year she began to sell her work, leaving room to continue crafting while also producing funds to pay for more equipment.

The Tuesday, June 24 Farmer's Market in Williams Lake was Ward's first time ever selling her work at a market, but she hopes to continue doing so for the rest of the summer.

You'll find her with a big smile on her face, likely working away with her pliers and wires as she waits for folks to admire, and maybe acquire, some of her Happy Wrapping jewellery.
