Supporting the 100 Mile District Hospice Palliative Care Society has always been a cause close to Bobbie Crane’s heart.

The Lac La Hache acrylic artist, known for her beautiful paintings of animals and landscapes, is supporting hospice in two major ways this year. She will be teaching the 2024 Butterfly Brushes Paint Night with Bobbie Crane and donating a portion of the proceeds of her new Showcase Gallery show Let Us Celebrate Hospice Together. Crane does all this because hospice has supported her family and friends over the years.

“Hospice has been a part of my life in the last 10 years. With the loss of my sister and brother-in-law, hospice was there to help them through their last days. I’ve also lost a couple of friends where hospice has also been there for them,” Crane explained. “I have always felt that if there is one thing I would give back to it would be hospice because of what they have represented, personally, in my life.”

Crane has been painting for almost four decades now and is known for hosting painting classes in her home studio. Over the years she’s created a sizeable body of work for her home gallery, so much so she’s starting to run out of space.

That’s why everything in Crane’s Let Us Celebrate Hospice Together at the Showcase Gallery, located in the South Cariboo Business Centre, is for sale this month with between 50 to 100 per cent of the proceeds going to hospice, depending on the painting. Crane said she has hung a dozen paintings with prices ranging from $45 to $250.

“I’m really hoping the public will come out and support hospice in that way,” Crane said. “There will be an array of different work (in the show). I’ll have some florals, animals, birds and landscapes. Almost like an eclectic sort of body of work.”

Those who attended the paint night on May 28 will also get a chance to purchase some of her work. When she teaches students how to paint Crane does so by painting a sample painting with them. As a result, she has several duplicate paintings she plans to sell during the class.

“I’m going to offer them to the participants by donation. If they see one they really like I would like them to donate some funds to hospice and then take it home,” Crane remarked. “I would like everyone to really think about what hospice does for our community. Hospice is an integral part of our hospital and the services they provide for residents close to end of life is very important.”

Crane invites anyone with a desire to learn how to paint to sign up for the Butterfly Brushes Paint Night. Tickets are $50 which include all supplies needed to create Butterfly Kisses, a painting of a fox kissing a butterfly, and a meal.

There are only 50 spots available for this class at the 108 Community Hall from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on May 25. Tickets can be purchased by contacting hospice at 250-395-7680 or from Donex Pharmacy & Department Store or 100 Mile House Pharmasave.

“If you have art in mind to adorn your home, please come out and support hospice,” Crane remarked. “Hopefully you’ll be able to find something that will fit in a nice little corner of your home.”

Anyone looking for further information or to buy one of Crane’s pieces is invited to contact her at bobbiecrane.71@gmail.com or 250-396-7721.
