For a second time this month, Vaisakhi was officially celebrated Saturday at Williams Lake’s other Sikh temple on Mackenzie Avenue, the Guru Nanak Sikh Temple.
Dozens of Sikh and lakecity community members turned out to raise the temple’s flag and officially celebrate the Punjabi New Year.
The event capped off a week of prayer and shared meals at the temple leading up to the weekend celebrations.
Despite a reduction in temple members since the 2017 wildfires and reduced job prospects in the area, the community still remains committed to gathering to celebrate their traditions.

Every year for Vaisakhi the temple changes out its flag covering to wash so they can refresh the pole and prepare it for the next 365 days.
Afterwards, attendees celebrate with a traditional meal in the temple.
While the weather was temperamental on Saturday the ceremony was blessed by relatively clear skies and sunshine throughout the proceedings.
For future celebrations, anyone is welcome to attend regardless of faith.
