Daughters enjoy bike helmets designed by artist mom

"I wanted to do something nice for my girls," Mandee Bartley said. "I often paint for other people's kids."

Two Cariboo sisters have been enjoying biking while wearing new helmets with designs on them painted by their mom, a Williams Lake area artist.

"I wanted to do something nice for my girls," said Mandee Bartley. "I often paint for other people's kids."

Astrid, 10,  and Kyren, 8, both needed new helmets and Bartley thought it would be neat to paint designs highlighting some of their favourite movies.

"I was kind of experimenting," she added, chuckling.

Her daughters watched her paint the helmets and were pretty excited, she said.

Bartley intentionally tries to get her children to spend as much time outside as possible.

"We live out towards Horsefly so there are lots of areas for them to explore. They ride around our road and our property. We live on a ranch."

They hunt and fish too and both girls are becoming skilled at it.

Born and raised in Williams Lake, Bartley's uncle is Randy Moe, an artists, who she grew up learning from.

"I do wildlife art, I do fan art on skateboards, I do all sort of art," she said.

She also manages the Still North Design store in Williams Lake.
