The annual race pitting drivers and cyclists lands at the legislature Wednesday (May 7) morning.

The countdown to Spring Go By Bike Week kicks off with the annual commuter challenge pitting bikes against cars in a race to Victoria on Wednesday (May 6).

Race to the Ledge kicks off with 17 teams of local leaders and event sponsors competing to be first to the lawn of the legislature. Teams are expected to roll into the event between 8 and 8:15 a.m., with the official launch and speakers at 8:30.

The aim of the race, hosted by Capital Bikes, is to show that cycling is a more efficient form of travel, and Greater Victoria residents can beat traffic on their way to work by riding a bike rather than driving a car. Racers compete during the morning rush through downtown.

Spring Go By Bike Week in Greater Victoria runs May 31 to June 6.

It starts May 31 with a handful of bike infrastructure celebration rides leaving Langford, Colwood, Esquimalt, Oak Bay, Saanich and Victoria – culminating at the first celebration station at the north end of Selkirk Trestle from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
