Community invited to Live out Loud in Williams Lake Aug 9-11

Some inclusive events are taking place at Williams Lake First Nation Arbour Aug. 9, 10, 11.

A screening of the film Rosie is one of the events taking place Aug. 9, 10, 11 for Live Out Loud at Williams Lake First Nation.

Youth, members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and their supporters in Williams Lake are invited to Live Out Loud Aug. 9, 10 and 11.

Cariboo Chilcotin Foundry has organized events with the help of BGC Club Williams Lake, Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), Denisiqi Services Society, Williams Lake Pride Society, and Williams Lake Film Club. Foundry and their friends will be hosting events and workshops at the WLFN Arbour at 2581 Cariboo Highway 97 South throughout the weekend.

"This is a free community event with the purpose of highlighting and celebrating 2SLGBTQIA+ speakers and artists in order to provide representation and inspiration for local 2SLGBTQIA+ youth," said Rylee Smith, a peer support worker at the Foundry and the event organizer.

"The purpose of this event is to bring the community together by celebrating diversity and authenticity."

Friday, Aug. 9, an opening ceremony and free screening of the film Rosie will take place at the arbour from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Saturday, Aug. 10, painting will happen at 10 a.m., embroidery at 11 a.m., volleyball at 11 a.m., karate at noon, speakers from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., a make-up workshop at 3 p.m., youth art walk 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and vendors and information tables from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

A DJ dance party will take place Saturday night 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Sunday, Aug. 11, a breakfast will be on offer from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
