Honour someone you've lost in your life but releasing a butterfly in Kelowna.
On Saturday, June 14, the Central Okanagan Hospice Association (COHA) welcomes members of the community to their annual event titled The Butterfly Effect. At the event, everyone can release a butterfly into the sky as a way to remember, reflect, celebrate, and reconnect with those people have lost in their lives.
“The Butterfly Effect is more than just a community event—it’s a moment to pause, reflect, and find healing together. Each butterfly we release carries with it love, remembrance, and a message of hope,” said Natasha Girard, COHA Executive Director. “We welcome all individuals and families to join us for a day of meaning and connection.”
Over 400 butterflies will be released at the celebration of life. Butterflies are available for purchase for $55 each, or in packs of 3 for $150 with all proceeds going towards COHA's grief and bereavement services and programs. Those who want to reserve a butterfly can so on the COHA website.
There will also be live music, a memory wall, family activities, and refreshments from local vendors.
The event is taking place at Falcon Ridge Farms (579 Rifle Road), with registration at 10:30 a.m. Speeches will start at 11:30 a.m., following by the butterfly release 15 minutes later.
Residents planning to attend are asked to bring lawn chairs or blankets as sitting is not provided. Golf cart shuttles will be available from the parking area to the site for those with mobility differences. The event is fully outdoors.
