The Big Lake Community Association is gearing up to host its 40th Annual Fishing Derby.
There will be lots of prizes for adults, teens and children as well as the opportunity to win $20,000 through an envelope draw.
Kicking off Friday, May 30, the derby runs until Sunday, June 1.
There will be a Saturday night dance featuring Akimbo, a band from Quesnel that play Classic Rock, Classic Country, New Country and Blues, said Marianne Woods, a member of the Big Lake Community Association.
"One of the members of the band was from Bobby B & the Beaumonts who played in our hall almost 40 years ago. We thought it would be nostalgic for the 40th anniversary of the derby," she told the Tribune.
Already community association members have been out selling raffle tickets for a 2025 Polaris Sportsman 570 Hunt Edition ATV and plan to be at Save-on-Foods Saturday, April 26 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Registration for the derby is available on site when it begins and updated information will be added to the Big Lake Annual Fishing Derby Facebook page.
