A look back at the history of the Hope-Princeton trail

History photo of the day
1930-hope-trail073a
This historic photo is of Rev. Dr. JC Goodfellow and three friends reaching the summit of the Hope-Princeton trail on July 30, 1930; 5960 feet above sea level. This was the route used to pack supplies into and drive cattle to market from Princeton, until the railway came to Princeton in 1909 and Highway 3 opened in 1949. Between 1927 and 1949, Rev. Goodfellow made many trips across the Hope trail to bring attention to the need to complete Highway 3 and to share the ancient experience with others.
