I didn’t plan on mentioning elections -- many readers must be as tired of political bumph as I am, but I have some thoughts on voting. If you belong to a political party, no problem, vote for your candidate, and in Cariboo Chilcotin we have two. Easy peasy? Not quite. Some voters are adrift due to the death of B.C. United, and there always are a goodly number of undecideds. My advice to the latter groups is get informed. If ever there was a time for voters to know all sides of the issues, it’s now. You can’t make good decisions if you don’t have good information. The trouble is, getting good information isn’t easy when there’s so much misinformation flying around. Don’t rely on social media, opinions aren’t facts. The mainstream media makes mistakes and can be biased too. Listen to what the leaders and the candidates have to say before you make your choice.

My dad had strong political opinions, especially at election time, and he thought he should choose mom’s candidate. One year she shut him up by announcing her choice of a different candidate because he had “such nice brown eyes.” Dad nearly had a fit, and spluttered “women should never have been allowed to vote.” He didn’t twig she was teasing him. That candidate won. Dad was peeved for months.
